VALENCIA will have the largest arena in the country.

The multi-purpose venue will sit on 21,500sqm of land with a capacity of 18,600 for concerts and 15,000 for basketball matches.

Costing around €220 million, construction is expected to begin next year for a completion date in 2023.

The project is led by a well-known Spanish entrepreneur Juan Roig and his holding company Licampa 1617.

The arena’s capacity will surpass that of Madrid’s WiZink Center, which has seen concerts from the likes of Queen, AC/DC, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Ed Sheeran, and Beyonce over the years.

The Valencia Arena project has been described as a ‘personal and altruistic initiative’ for Juan Roig, who is the president of Mercadona, one of Spain’s most successful supermarket chains.

“The aim is to give Valencia a multi-use space which will position the city and outskirts as a world-class destination for national and international sporting, cultural and entertainment events,” Roig said.

The Arena is being designed by sporting architects Hok and Valencia-based firm Erre.
